OpenAI Codex + n8n Developer Freelance
Your team already uses ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business or Enterprise, and you want to turn this individual usage into an industrialized automation system? Based in Antananarivo, I design OpenAI Codex + n8n integrations that turn Codex (OpenAI's coding agent) into an automation engine wired into all your business tools.

OpenAI Codex in 2026: the new game
OpenAI Codex came back to the front of the stage in early 2026 as Codex App. This new generation is natively integrated into ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise — which makes it a natural choice for teams already committed to the OpenAI ecosystem.
Unlike the first version (deprecated in 2023), 2026 Codex is an autonomous agent: it plans, executes tasks on your file system, runs shell commands, reads code and iterates. It is positioned directly against Anthropic's Claude Code by OpenAI.
For teams already standardized on ChatGPT, choosing Codex avoids the friction of introducing a second LLM editor. And combined with n8n, it becomes an automation engine accessible through a simple workflow.
What I build with Codex + n8n
Codex agents orchestrated by n8n — Codex handles the complex task (analysis, generation, refactoring), n8n manages runtime, triggers, routing and notifications. Typical case: an n8n workflow that detects a new support ticket, sends the context to Codex, retrieves a reasoned answer, and pushes it into Zendesk after human validation.
Content generation automation — Briefs in, SEO articles + Codex images + WordPress publishing out. Full pipeline automated with human quality control.
AI-assisted DevOps pipelines — Codex generates, tests and ships code on n8n trigger (GitHub push, validated Linear ticket). Ideal for teams that want to industrialize small fixes without mobilizing a senior developer.
ChatGPT Enterprise integration — For Enterprise teams, I design workflows that leverage Custom GPTs and OpenAI Actions from n8n, with respect for permissions and centralized logs.
Codex vs Claude Code: which to choose for n8n
Both work and I work with both. Here is how I guide the choice:
Choose Codex if: your team is already standardized on ChatGPT (Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise), you want to avoid introducing a second AI tool, you need native integration with OpenAI Custom GPTs, or you work a lot with DALL·E and image generation.
Choose Claude Code if: you are starting on a fresh stack, you need the best tool for reading large codebases, you work with MCP intensively, or you want the best quality/control ratio for multi-file refactoring.
For a detailed comparison, see the article Claude Code vs OpenAI Codex for n8n (being updated). My approach is to propose the right tool for the right context rather than a dogma.
Prompt engineering for Codex
Codex shares the prompt-engineering fundamentals with Claude Code (CLAUDE.md equivalent, OODA, decomposition), but with a few specifics.
AGENTS.md or Codex profile — OpenAI has its own convention for project context, with different hooks. I adapt my templates depending on the tool.
Custom GPTs for repetitive workflows — For ChatGPT Enterprise teams, I create specialized Custom GPTs (code review, documentation generation, security audit) that are then called from n8n through the OpenAI API or directly through Actions.
Structured Outputs — OpenAI has pushed validated JSON outputs far. For n8n workflows that take free text in and must produce structured JSON (classification, extraction, scoring), Codex with structured outputs is typically more reliable than a classical prompt.
Why a freelance OpenAI Codex developer in 2026
Codex App is recent (relaunched February 2026) and French-speaking coverage remains limited. Most French AI freelancers work on Claude Code or on older solutions (GPT-4 via API).
Hiring a Codex + n8n specialist now means: taking a lead on the adoption curve, leveraging OpenAI-specific advantages (Custom GPTs, structured outputs, DALL·E), and preparing your stack for the upcoming evolutions on OpenAI Enterprise.
My positioning: a developer who masters both ecosystems (Anthropic and OpenAI) and advises you honestly based on your context, without dogma.
The Madagascar advantage for Codex + n8n
Same principles as my Claude Code + n8n page: leading-edge technical expertise, competitive rates for the European market, GMT+3 timezone aligned with France, French and English communication.
Workflows shipped documented, OpenAI accounts configured with respect for permissions (RBAC, Audit Log API for Enterprise), n8n workflows exportable and hostable anywhere.

Frequently asked questions
What is OpenAI Codex in 2026?
2026 Codex (also called Codex App) is OpenAI's autonomous coding agent, relaunched in February 2026 and natively integrated into ChatGPT Plus, Pro, Business, Edu and Enterprise. It's OpenAI's direct answer to Anthropic's Claude Code. It plans, executes commands, reads code and iterates on errors.
Do I need a ChatGPT Enterprise account to use Codex + n8n?
No. ChatGPT Plus ($20/month) is enough to get started. For teams, ChatGPT Business ($25/user/month) or Enterprise bring better data controls, shared Custom GPTs and Audit Logs. The choice depends on your team size and required compliance level.
Is Codex better than Claude Code for n8n?
Neither better nor worse — different. Codex shines on ChatGPT Enterprise integration, Custom GPTs and image generation through DALL·E. Claude Code shines on reading large codebases and the n8n MCP pattern. The right choice depends on your current stack. I work with both and advise you based on your context.
How does Codex plug into n8n?
Three production patterns. (1) HTTP Request node calling the OpenAI API for one-off calls. (2) Native n8n OpenAI node for classical AI workflows (classification, generation, embedding). (3) Custom GPT exposed through OpenAI Actions, called from n8n with dedicated authentication for Enterprise teams.
What's the rate for a freelance OpenAI Codex + n8n developer?
European day rates range from 400 to 700 €/day for an experienced AI + n8n profile. My rates based in Antananarivo remain competitive on the European market with a time-zone advantage (GMT+3) and equivalent technical quality. Quote on request after a discovery call.
Does Codex App work with sensitive data?
With ChatGPT Enterprise and the no-training option, client data is not used to train OpenAI models. Encryption in transit and at rest is standard. For very sensitive data (health, regulated finance, defense), I recommend self-hosted models (Llama, Mistral) rather than a cloud solution.
