Forward Deployed AI Engineer for US teams: from business problem to production

A Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) works close to customers and operators to turn a business problem into production software. The role combines software engineering, technical consulting, product judgment and implementation. A Forward Deployed AI Engineer adds AI systems, workflow automation and model integration to that delivery responsibility.

The title was popularized by Palantir and is now used by AI companies including OpenAI and Anthropic. Unlike a developer waiting for a fixed specification, an FDE helps discover the right solution, builds it inside the customer's environment and remains accountable for whether it works in practice.

A contract FDE is useful when the problem crosses product, engineering and operations: a manual workflow is slowing the team down, an AI prototype must become reliable, several APIs need to work as one system, or a customer deployment needs technical ownership. You get senior execution without waiting to hire a full internal team.

I work asynchronously from Madagascar with planned overlap for US meetings, written decisions and visible delivery milestones. A typical engagement starts with a short technical and business review, moves to a scoped production release, then continues with monitoring and iteration when the system proves its value.

I build AI agents, remote n8n automation systems, API integrations and custom Next.js + Supabase applications. Common use cases include lead qualification, customer support with human handoff, document processing, internal reporting, CRM synchronization and operational tools.

The architecture fits the risk of the workflow: human approval before sensitive actions, retries and error paths around external APIs, logs for diagnosis, and ownership of deployment. The goal is not to add AI everywhere. It is to remove a measurable bottleneck with the simplest system that can operate reliably.
